Carey is a native of Southwest Missouri. He is finishing his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through John Brown University, expecting to graduate December, 2022. He and his wife raised two beautiful daughters and now have eleven grandchildren. His family is one of his greatest sources of happiness and fun. He has dealt with complicated grief, losing his dad and sister in the Joplin EF5 tornado, May 2011. Grief took him into counseling and when he stabilized, he stayed in counseling for three years total, dealing with trauma from his childhood. Finding healing from counseling made him want to give back, which led him to John Brown, and becoming a counselor. He has play family therapy experience from his studies, along with a lot of play with his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoys working with adults, teens, children age 5 and up, and families. He specializes in grief, addiction, emotional duress, anxiety, and depression. He desires to work with anyone from any cultural background, sexual identity, gender, or race.
“Healing comes with a high cost. After you have it you will know it is truly priceless. You pay by facing your fears and embracing your brokenness, which is the down payment. Next, you bring it into the sacred space of a counseling room walking with someone who cares deeply and at times more than you care about yourself. Healing happens. Take on the attitude of whatever it takes. Worked for me.” Carey
